About the Client
The client is a leading distributor of water, wastewater, storm drainage, and fire protection products in the United States. Headquartered in Missouri, the firm operates globally across 49 states, serving municipalities, private water companies, and professional contractors. With a robust national supply chain and deep local expertise, the client supports critical infrastructure projects for both new construction and aging systems. The company offers a comprehensive portfolio including pipes, valves, fittings, storm drainage solutions, fire protection equipment, and water metering technologies. Their commitment to quality and innovation helps communities build and maintain safe, sustainable infrastructure nationwide.
Need for Automation
The client relied on a suite of internally developed applications to streamline sales, customer engagement, and project management. Each application is integral to business operations, supporting processes from bid creation to mobile account access and job tracking. Their legacy manual testing and fragmented validation processes resulted in slower release cycles, increased risk of defects in production, and limited scalability, which prompted the need for robust automation. To ensure quality, scalability, and speed across these platforms, the implementation of robust automation for quality engineering has become essential. This approach is imperative to improve operational efficiency and enable the organization to respond quickly to evolving business needs and maintain a competitive edge in the market.
Challenges
The client’s manual and fragmented validation processes not only slowed release cycles but also increased the risk of defects reaching production, impacting multiple stakeholders across the organization. Sales teams faced delays in bid creation, customer engagement teams struggled with inconsistent experiences, and project managers encountered inefficiencies in job tracking and execution. These challenges created operational bottlenecks and reduced overall business agility. To address these issues, the client partnered with LTIMindtree to implement enterprise-grade test automation, enabling faster delivery, improved reliability, and scalability across all applications.
LTIMindtree’s Solution
LTIMindtree implemented a comprehensive automation strategy across multiple business-critical applications, focusing on enhancing test coverage, reliability, and efficiency. By leveraging modern frameworks and integrating CI/CD pipelines, the solution addressed key challenges in applications like JMO Application and PowerScope, delivering measurable improvements in quality engineering.
This approach to test automation for enterprises ensures faster releases, reduced manual effort, and improved defect detection, helping organizations achieve scalability, cost optimization, and high-quality software delivery.
Key aspects of the solution included:
Centralized Bid Data for Analytics and Risk Reduction
A web application PowerScope 6 (PS6) was jointly developed by LTIMindtree and the client to enable bid creation and pricing while centralizing data for analytics and risk reduction. As part of this initiative, PowerScope 6 (PS6) was supported by a Ruby-Cucumber automation framework that automated over 565 regression test cases to validate UI workflows and identity server authentication flows. This high-coverage approach significantly reduced manual QA effort, supported frequent updates, and ensured consistent, quality releases.
Seamless Customer Account Management and Ordering
To enhance customer experience and operational efficiency, LTIMindtree and the client jointly developed Online Advantage (OA), a unified platform for ordering, account management, billing, and payments. We integrated it with Azure AD B2C for secure authentication and third-party services like Worldpay, MuleSoft, and UTA, OA ensures reliability and security during technology transitions. Migrating automation from Telerik to Playwright enabled parallel execution, eliminated license costs, and accelerated test cycles, delivering robust validation of workflows, UI, SSO, and critical integrations for an improved customer experience and operational efficiency.
Optimized Job Management and Order Processing
JobInsight was the client’s internal project management tool that centralized job-related data such as orders, invoices, and contracts, enabling assignment of project managers and releasing sales orders into Mincron. To improve JobInsight’s efficiency and reliability, LTIMindtree implemented a Playwright automation framework to streamline job filtering and data retrieval workflows, validate assignment and job detail views, ensure stability in releasing orders into Mincron, and optimize testing for consolidated job views—significantly reducing manual effort and enhancing process accuracy.
Consistent Mobile Experience Across Devices
Mobile Advantage was a mobile application jointly developed by LTIMindtree and the client. It extended the Online Advantage platform to mobile, offering barcode scanning, mobile check deposits, product browsing, and list creation with export and email options. To ensure quality and consistency across iOS and Android, we implemented cross-device automation using Appium with BrowserStack, reducing manual testing, validating mobile-specific features such as scanning and deposits, and delivering a seamless user experience across platforms and devices.
CI/CD Integration
Established CI/CD pipelines for all suites, with scheduled executions and automated email reports to stakeholders.
Quality and Reliability
Maintained scripts for >95% pass rate and significantly reduced bug leakage into production.
Smoke Test Optimization
Identified critical smoke tests and created dedicated pipelines for quick ad-hoc testing.

Benefits
Implementing automation and modern testing practices has brought a wide range of benefits to the client. These improvements, driven by automation for quality engineering, have enhanced efficiency, reliability, and transparency across the client’s processes, supporting better outcomes for both teams and stakeholders.
Conclusion
LTIMindtree’s automation solution has delivered measurable improvements in software quality, operational efficiency, and cost optimization. By leveraging modern frameworks, integrating CI/CD pipelines, and implementing robust test coverage—including regression and smoke tests—the solution has enabled faster releases, reduced manual effort, and minimized defect leakage. Through automation for quality engineering, clients benefit from enhanced reliability, improved visibility into testing outcomes, and scalable automation practices that support both current and future digital transformation goals. This case study serves as an example of how leveraging automation sets new benchmarks for excellence, helping organizations modernize their testing ecosystems to remain competitive in an increasingly digital landscape.
