Data Assurance


LTIMindtree’s approach for data assurance focuses on end-to-end data-centric testing and comprehensive test data management. Performed by a testing team leveraging RADAR test automation tools, the data-centric testing compares data from the source and target system and involves tests for:

  • Data Structure – Covers checks for deployed tables, views, stored procedures and macros in the database, modeled columns, and column characteristics
  • Data Completeness – Validates record counts, reconciles financial fields, checks rejected record counts, and verifies the contents of the fields being populated in the stage and target databases
  • Data Quality – Scans data for null key values, duplicate records and invalid data types, checks for distinct values and ensures their validity, and mandates adherence to global rule requirements
  • Data Correctness – Validates data which has been transformed according to business rules, error handling process, data capture process, ETL generated fields and batch load process
  • Data Integrity – Ensures referential integrity between parent and child tables; checks data in stage database against data in the warehouse and data in the warehouse against data in the data mart; verifies data in the physical tables against data presented in the logical views

LTIMindtree provides a ‘one-stop solution’ for data-centric testing which covers the following stages in the data testing lifecycle:

  • Data Staging Validation
    • Performed using LTIMindtree’s Big Test tool
    • Ensures correctness of data being pulled into the system by validating data from sources including RDBMS, web logs and social media
    • Checks source data against the data being pushed into the Hadoop system for inconsistencies
    • Verifies that the right data is extracted and loaded into the correct Hadoop Distribution File System (HDFS) location.
  • Hadoop ‘MapReduce’ Validation
    • Ensures the effectiveness of the MapReduce process
    • Checks if the data aggregation and segregation rules are being implemented on the data, and key value pairs are being generated
    • Validates the data after the MapReduce process is executed
  • Output Validation
    • Runs checks to ensure that the transformation rules are being correctly applied
    • Examines data integrity and data loading into the target system of MAP, and identifies instances of data corruption
  • Streaming Data Validation
    • Carries out robust data quality checks for systems using multiple data streams to capture and report any cases of data discrepancy
